Big Data

Remote sensing with imaging instruments produces an enormous amount of data: for example, The hyperspectral imaging and mapping system of the Wageningen UR Unmanned Aerial Remote Sensing Facility (UARSF) generates approximately 500 GB per km2. Apart from storage, different pre-processing and post-processing may also be required, like image processing, data-mining, and feature recognition.

A robust and reactive structure is necessary to sustain the load and to process the number of requests.

Cluster Hardware

The cloud computing cluster consists of the following hardware components:

  • 54 Xeon CPU cores
  • 4 Nvidia GTX 1080Ti GPUs
  • in total more than 1 TB RAM
  • 6 TB internal SSD storage
  • 160 TB external HDD storage
  • 1 Cisco manageable 10 Gbps Ethernet switch as a backbone
